Kong Dog will be opening its new location at the Glenmont Shopping Center on Friday, April 8, according to an announcement on the chain’s Instagram account.
The new location will hold a soft opening event from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, and Thursday, April 7, then open with regular hours on Friday, April 8, according to the announcement. Kong Dog will give away 200 free corn dogs during the soft opening on Wednesday and Thursday.
We reported last week that the Chicago-based Korean corn dog chain would open at the former home of El Encanto at 12335-H Georgia Avenue, as part of their rapid national expansion.
According to Eater, Kong Dog’s original location opened last year in Chicago’s Glenview neighborhood, where it was previously known as Eggsum Holy Cow, going viral on TikTok for its corn dogs’ cheese pulls. They opened a second location last December in Chicago’s Little Italy neighborhood, and the company’s third opened last week in Chicago’s Chinatown. A location in Albany, New York is slated to open later this year.
Korean corn dogs have been recently exploding in popularity. Ssong’s Hot Dogs opened in 2020 at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda, and Two Hands Corn Dogs opened yesterday at Wheaton Mall.
