Two Arrested for Theft and Assault at Home Depot

Montgomery County Police say they have arrested two men in connection with an August 2 theft and assault at the Home Depot store in Aspen Hill.

22-year-old Sean Palmer of Washington, D.C., and 41-year-old Jonte Smith of Brentwood, have been charged with theft and second-degree assault and were released on a $5,000 unsecured personal bond. A third suspect remains at large.

“At approximately 9:35 p.m., 4th District officers responded to the 14000 block of Georgia Ave. for the report of a theft that just occurred,” MCPD said in a news release. “The investigation by detectives has determined that three suspects entered the store and allegedly stole a large quantity of items. When they were confronted by a loss prevention officer, one of the suspects pepper-sprayed him. The suspects then fled the scene in a gray Dodge Charger.

“Officers located the Dodge Charger traveling southbound on Georgia Ave., near Randolph Rd. and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The Dodge continued traveling at a high rate of speed and collided with a Jeep Grand Cherokee near the intersection of Georgia Ave. and Henderson Ave. The suspects exited the Dodge and ran away. Officers quickly took into custody two of the suspects, who were identified as Sean Palmer and Jonte Smith. The two adult male occupants of the Jeep that were struck by the suspects, were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.”

MCPD said that the third suspect remains at large. He is described as a Black male, around 20 years old, 5’10”, approximately 150 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweater, jogging pants, and white shoes.
