The Takoma-East Silver Spring Community Action Center has moved from Piney Branch Road to new offices at 8703 Flower Ave., officials announced.
The TESS Community Action Center is part of the Department of Health and Human Services and has served the Long Branch community for 50 years.
The walk-in offices can help resident get connected with county services, non-profit programs and other resources, providing rental assistance, childcare assistance, help with programs such as the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Medicaid, the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, and legal services, in English, Spanish, Amharic, and Farsi.
“I have worked with TESS for decades and understand firsthand how valuable they are to Montgomery County,” County Executive Marc Elrich said in a press release. “I’m proud of their outreach and thank them for the crucial role they play in improving the county’s health and equity outcomes while enriching the lives of those they serve.”
TESS also works with other county agencies on local emergencies, such as fires or floods.
The center is open Monday through Friday, with walk-in hours available from 9 a.m.–noon. Appointments are available Tuesday–Thursday from 1–4 p.m. The phone number is 240.777.8260.
