Citizens&Culture, a new bi-level sports bar in downtown Silver Spring from Kaldi’s Social House owner Tsega Haliemariam, is set to open in mid-December.
Haliemariam took over the space formerly occupied by Pacci’s Pizzeria at 8113 Georgia Ave. in 2019, with plans to turn it into a restaurant with an American-themed menu. Long delayed by the pandemic, Citizens&Culture is ready to make its debut.
“The first thing we’re going to do is expand the size,” Hailemariam said to the Source in 2019, with plans to enclose the patio space and add an enclosed rooftop space similar to Kaldi’s.
Hailemariam said he would tap into the local brewing culture to supply beers for about 50-60 taps, targeting a happy hour crowd as well as dinner patrons. He recently said to the Source that he was inspired by Yard House’s offerings of 100 beers on tap, and wanted to bring a similar experience to downtown Silver Spring.
The restaurant is currently hiring bartenders, cooks, servers, and managers. Interested applicants should email [email protected] for an application.
Citizens&Culture joins a slate of fall restaurant openings in downtown Silver Spring, including Black Lion Café, The Breakfast Club, Firepan Korean BBQ, and Kusshi Sushi.
