26-Year-Old Hyattsville Man Arrested for Mail Theft in Downtown Silver Spring

Montgomery County Police say that 26-year-old Shaheem Jerry Denson of Hyattsville has been arrested and charged in connection with a mail theft that occurred early Thursday morning in the 8100 block of Georgia Avenue in downtown Silver Spring.

At approximately 5 a.m. on Thursday, officers from the 3rd District observed Denson standing in front of two USPS mail collection boxes, MCPD said in a press release. The officers watched as Denson appeared to reach into the collection box. When officers approached Denson, he began walking away from the scene, discarding mail and a homemade device designed to steal mail.

He was arrested without incident and transported to the Central Processing Unit, where he was charged with mail theft and felony theft.

Denson was released on his own recognizance on Thursday.
