UPDATE: Owner Jay Bae has notified the Source that today’s soft opening is incorrect. “Our marketing team misunderstood,” Bae said in a message to the Source.

Firepan Korean BBQ will be soft opening its downtown Silver Spring location starting today, according to a post on the restaurant’s Instagram account.
The restaurant will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. during the soft opening phase.
The restaurant, located at the former home of Pete’s New Haven Apizza at 962 Wayne Ave. in downtown Silver Spring, initially targeted a Fall 2021 opening, then delayed to January, April, May, and August. The Montgomery County Board of License Commissioners approved Firepan’s application for a liquor license last year, according to Bethesda Beat.
Owner Jay Bae confirmed to the Source in September that the restaurant would be opening soon as they were hiring staff.
Firepan’s original location opened in 2019 at Eden Center in Falls Church, Va. The restaurant’s Woodbridge, Va. location officially opened last week.
According to their website, Firepan’s menu offers a varied menu, of meats, seafood, vegetarian selections like kimchi pancakes, and more adventurous options like beef intestines. “No, it’s not the sophisticate’s choice for Korean barbecue,” Northern Virginia Magazine’s Alice Levitt said in her April 12 review. “But when I’m looking to be served by a friendly team eager to abet some of my most destructive habits, Firepan is my choice.”
Firepan’s opening is the latest in a slate of fall business openings in downtown Silver Spring, including The Breakfast Club, Black Lion Café, and Citizens&Culture, as well as the recently-opened Kusshi Sushi and Sashe’s Dominican Beauty Salon & ICU Beauty Bar.
