Silver Spring is once again among the most generous cities in the United States, according to a 2022 Giving Report from the online fundraising platform GoFundMe.
The annual report, released earlier this month, includes a list of the most generous states and cities in America. Silver Spring is the third most generous city for supporting individuals, causes, and organizations this year, beating out Alexandria, Va. at #12, Bethesda at #17, and Rockville at #20.
Previously, Silver Spring ranked third in 2021 and first in 2020.
Notable area fundraisers on the platform this year include:
- Layoff of Baristas – Peets Silver Spring Closing: A GoFundMe fundraiser was set up for the staff of Peet’s Coffee in downtown Silver Spring, which closed on Oct. 30.
- Texas Elementary School Shooting Victims Fund: All Set Restaurant & Bar in downtown Silver Spring donated nearly $20,000 raised to the victims, survivors, and families impacted by the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
“When you look at all the people who helped each other on GoFundMe by starting a fundraiser or making a donation — 28 million this year alone—you start to see a bigger picture, GoFundMe said in a press release. “Through the storms, sickness, and new opportunities, we are connected to one another through help.”
