Three Arrested, Charged With Armed Robbery, Shooting

Detectives from the county’s 3rd District Investigative Section have arrested and charged three men for armed robbery and shooting incidents that occurred in downtown Silver Spring last June.

Nathan Elijah Barnes, 21, of Washington, D.C., Brian Odell Bowen, 19, of Suitland, and Demonte Martez Hewitt, 21, of Washington, D.C., have been charged in connection with the incidents, according to an MCPD press release.

At approximately 3 a.m. on June 9, four suspects robbed an adult male victim at gunpoint in a parking garage located at 8100 Fenton St. The suspects took the victim’s personal property and fled.

An adult male victim was shot at approximately 3 a.m. on June 15, by three suspects displaying handguns in the 900 block of Silver Spring Ave. A non-life-threatening injury was sustained by the victim and he was transported to a local hospital.

As a result of the investigation, detectives were able to determine that the incidents were related and identified Barnes, Bowen, and Hewitt as suspects.

Barnes was arrested on unrelated charges on August 9 in Prince George’s County. Hewitt was arrested on October 28 in Washington, D.C., by U.S. Marshals, when he appeared in court for an unrelated matter. Bowen was arrested on December 13 by the U.S. Marshals in Prince George’s County.

All three are being held without bond.
