Gulf Gas Station Closed for Renovations

The Gulf gas station at 8600 Georgia Ave. in downtown Silver Spring has closed for renovations.

A fence has been erected around the site and demolition is underway in preparation for the conversion to an Exxon gas station, according to online reports.

In 2016, preliminary plans were submitted to the Montgomery County Planning Board for a 173-room hotel with approximately 4,200 square feet of ground-level retail. Following the closure of the gas station in 2018, the station reopened shortly thereafter, seemingly putting an end to the hotel development project.
