28-year-old Maurice Ricks of Washington, D.C. has been charged with attempted second-degree murder in connection with a shooting that occurred on New Year’s Day at the Summit Hills apartment complex in downtown Silver Spring.
At approximately 6:05 p.m. on Jan. 1, 2nd District officers responded to a report of a shooting and found an adult male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The officers provided life-saving measures to the victim until Montgomery County Fire & Rescue arrived on the scene.
During the course of the investigation, detectives identified Ricks as the suspect, who shot the victim after being involved in an argument. The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Ricks, charging him with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and use of a firearm in the commission of a violent felony, according to an MCPD press release.
Ricks was arrested on Jan. 13 by members of the U.S. Marshals Service in Washington, D.C., and was taken to a correctional facility where he is currently awaiting extradition to Montgomery County.
