Outback Steakhouse is set to open in the former home of Not Your Average Joe’s at Ellsworth Place in downtown Silver Spring, according to an announcement from mall owner GBT Realty.
The national restaurant group signed a lease for approximately 7,000-sq. ft. of restaurant and patio space.
“Outback Steakhouse is a great addition to Ellsworth Place’s well-rounded assortment of restaurants, shops, entertainment, and services,” GBT Realty senior vice president Trey Culpepper said in a statement. “Since we acquired this center in 2018, we’ve worked to position it as a hub for value-oriented shopping and popular dining in this extremely diverse neighborhood. The addition of Outback brings us one step closer to creating the highly desirable destination that we envision for the surrounding community.”
The restaurant will occupy a restaurant space on level three at the corner of Colesville Road and Fenton Street, formerly occupied by Not Your Average Joe’s which closed in 2020. The steakhouse joins a lineup of local and national restaurant brands including Dave & Buster’s, Chipotle Mexican Grill, MOD Pizza, Don Pollo, McGinty’s Public House, and Ben & Jerry’s. Commas, the center’s food hall featuring a dozen food and beverage vendors, is expected to open this year as well.
“As the word gets out, we’re seeing a growing momentum in leasing activity at Ellsworth Place,” Culpepper said. “DSW opened last year in a 17,000-sq. ft. space; the tenant line-up for our food hall Commas is taking shape; and we are expecting to announce more new tenants in the coming weeks.”
An opening timetable for the restaurant has not been announced, however, build-out is currently underway.
