A Silver Spring woman recently won $50,000 while on a work break, according to the Maryland Lottery.
The Silver Spring resident has been experiencing a lucky streak lately in the lottery, winning a few small prizes from time to time. During a visit to the Shoppers grocery store on Cherry Hill Rd. in College Park, the 51-year-old purchased a $10 FAST PLAY ticket. The woman selected the High Roller Blackjack game with a progressive jackpot and won a second-tier prize of $50,000, according to a press release.
She told Maryland Lottery officials that the High Roller Blackjack game appealed to her, so she purchased two tickets for the game. Her luck was 50/50; she had no win on the first ticket, but a winning Blackjack hand on the second ticket. According to her, it is the largest prize she has ever won. “I was shaking like a leaf,” she said.
She has only shared her good fortune with a few family members and plans to keep quiet about the win. She plans to save the winnings for now but said it will help with family and educational expenses in the future.
Maryland Lottery encourages players to check their tickets by scanning them at any Lottery retailer or by using the Lottery’s mobile app. Winners of draw games and scratch-off games have 182 days from the date of the drawing to claim their prizes.
