Police: Silver Spring Man Robbed, Assaulted Victims Met on Dating App

Montgomery County Police say that a Silver Spring man has been arrested and charged with assault and robbery in connection with victims he met on a dating app, and investigators are seeking to identify any additional victims.

A male adult victim contacted Montgomery County Police on Monday, October 10, 2022, to report an earlier robbery. In his statement, the victim stated that he had met the suspect, who he called “Tommy,” through a dating app. A telephone conversation took place between the victim and the suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Brandon Darryl Kane. “Tommy” agreed to provide sex to the victim in exchange for payment, according to an MCPD news release.

Kane was picked up by Uber at the victim’s residence by the victim, who paid for the ride. An argument between Kane and the victim resulted in Kane physically assaulting the victim and stealing money from him.

On Saturday, October 22, 2022, police responded to a report of a robbery that had just occurred. A male adult victim reported that he and the suspect had exchanged messages on a dating app.

The suspect, later identified as Kane, and the victim agreed to meet. After arriving at the address given to him, the victim was physically assaulted by Kane, who then stole the victim’s wallet and forced him to leave the apartment.

Kane was arrested on April 6, and charged with two counts of robbery and assault in the first degree, MCPD said.

Anyone who believes Brandon Darryl Kane has victimized them is asked to contact MCPD’s Third District Investigative Section at (240) 773-6870.
