Approximately six months after Charles Reynolds was murdered in the Wayne Ave. Garage in downtown Silver Spring, his widow Karis Hastings and Montgomery County Police officials held a press conference Tuesday morning to seek assistance in identifying a suspect.
Reynolds had just picked up his oldest daughter from the airport after she had flown in from college in Colorado for the holidays, Hastings said. That evening, they were celebrating the birthday of Hastings’ niece, the daughter of her sister Mary Beth. The family went to Ben & Jerry’s for ice cream after dinner, and Reynolds ducked out to the Wayne Ave. Garage to pack the leftovers, according to MoCo360.
“His death is a loss,” Hastings said. “We’d really like to see someone come forward and resolve this. Obviously, nothing is going to bring him back but we’re hoping that getting the person who did it or the persons, it would make the community feel a little safer again.”
Police chief Marcus Jones said detectives have been unable to identify any potential suspects despite spending numerous hours interviewing witnesses, canvassing the surrounding area, and searching for leads. “We’re really at our wit’s end. At this point in time, it’s unexplainable,” Jones said.
There were no video cameras in the stairwell where the fatal shooting occurred. Several garages, including the Wayne Ave. Garage, will be equipped with cameras, and police have increased patrols throughout the county, including downtown Silver Spring, Jones said.
“I want to ensure the family of Mr. Reynolds that we will continue to investigate his murder until suspects have been identified, and apprehended and prosecuted by our state attorney’s office,” Jones said. “We will investigate this till we find out who did this.”
