Astro Lab Will Close at the End of May, Be Replaced by Third Hill Brewing

Astro Lab Brewing, which opened in 2018 at 8216 Georgia Ave., will close at the end of May, according to co-owner Emma Whelan.

Third Hill Brewing Co. with owner Jason Sliter, will replace it, Whelan said in a press release. It is planning to open in June, according to the Third Hill website.

“As with a lot of businesses, the pandemic kicked us in the butt. Astro Lab has been sustained to the present day by the love of patrons, bars, and retailers—and we’ll eternally be grateful for that—but our long-term vision was challenged by new economic realities, and our plans for expansion and growth were perpetually pushed to another day,” Whelan wrote in a press release.

Astro Lab will be open during regular hours until the closing, brewing Fresh As. Kid Fresh Pale Ale as well as a final brew, named Astro Lab, featuring a Nectaron, Galaxy, Codename Peacharine, and Nelson Sauvin hops.

Whelan said she was exploring options to place the current staff in jobs with Third Hill.
