A Taco Bell Cantina is set to open in the former home of Pollo Campero at 8662 Colesville Rd. in downtown Silver Spring, according to a report from Washington Business Journal.
The plans obtained from ConstructConnect indicate the permitting process is currently underway for the construction of a Cantina in Silver Spring at 8662 Colesville Rd., next to the Fillmore Silver Spring and across from Ellsworth Place, which combines traditional Taco Bell fare with alcoholic beverages like wine, beer, sangria and “twisted freezes.”
This will be at least the fifth Taco Bell Cantina in the region, joining locations in Court House, Old Town Alexandria, Columbia Heights, and one under construction in Chinatown at 808 Seventh St. NW.
The county’s Department of Permitting Services has received permit applications for the project, which would occupy the first floor of a 2,500-square-foot building formerly occupied by Pollo Campero. WBJ reports that a definitive lease has not been signed; permits are usually sought in advance of a lease to expedite the project’s progress.
Plans state that Taco Bell’s parent company Yum! Brands Inc. owns and manages the construction, while Akron, Ohio-based GPD Group Inc. provides architectural and engineering services. According to the plans, there will be a walk-up window and approximately 35 seats inside.
Pollo Campero closed in December 2021 after operating for four years at the location.
