Peri Peri Original is now open in the former home of Pollo Mex at Colesville Center, with Kallisto Steakhouse soon to follow.
Watford, U.K.-based Peri-Peri Original opened its first U.S. restaurant in Alexandria, Va., in 2018. The Nando’s competitor is currently expanding rapidly in the United States, with over a dozen locations already open in Maryland and Virginia.
An Afro-Portuguese dish, peri-peri is a flame-grilled chicken dish seasoned with peri-peri sauce and available at various degrees of heat. There are also burgers, salads, pitas and wraps, tacos, milkshakes, and more to choose from.
Yelp reviewer Maria P. gave the restaurant high marks last week, stating that their fried chicken sandwich is “better than Popeyes. Yes, you read me. BETTER THAN POPEYES! It can be customized with different sauces and there’s an array of sides to choose from if you desire a little something extra 🙂 We’re talking perfectly crispy tenders on a soft bun with mayo (for the classic), or you could get honey butter/honey garlic/Nashville hot/buffalo, ooooor you could even get the fillet that’s grilled after a 24hr marinade.”
Sister restaurant Kallisto Steakhouse opened in Herndon, Va. in 2020, serving Halal steaks:
