The owners of McGinty’s Public House and Astro Lab Brewing will open Whelan’s Beer & Wine this week at 9812 Falls Rd. in Potomac Village.
Whelan’s is owned by Greg Whelan, who opened McGinty’s with Brian Dolphin at Ellsworth Place in 2006, and his wife Emma, owner of Astro Lab Brewing, which closed in May.
As well as selling retail beer and wine, Whelan’s offers an onsite bar with 12 beers on tap and curated wines by the glass. Greg Whelan said to Store Reporter in June that the store would be “more of a bar with a package store than the other way around. We’ll have tasting tables, and I plan to tend bar quite a bit myself to bring some Irish hospitality.”
“We can’t wait to share our space with you,” Whelan’s posted on Instagram. “Whether you’re calling in for a pint or grabbing a few 6-packs and bottles of wine to-go, we aim to offer some of the best selections available in the Village.”
A preview event is scheduled for this evening.
