Willie T’s to Close, Switch to Milk & Honey Concept

Willie T’s Seafood Shack at 9326 Georgia Ave. will permanently close on Sunday.

According to an email obtained by the Source, a restaurant employee working Saturday said the Willie T’s would be renovated and reopened as Milk and Honey.

Reston, Va.-based Thompson Hospitality, which also operates Matchbox and other restaurants, owns and operates both the Willie T’s and Milk & Honey restaurants. Thompson opened the Silver Spring Willie T’s location in late March.

Chopped: Redemption champion and former Nobu chef Sammy Davis co-founded Milk & Honey Café, which opened in Beltsville in 2015 and quickly expanded in the area. Thompson acquired the soul food chain in 2020, renaming it Milk & Honey.

Matchbox added Milk & Honey’s brunch items to its menu in 2021, including jumbo smothered chicken and biscuits, shrimp and grits, crab hash, Cajun shrimp pasta, RumChata French toast, honey butter biscuits, among others.

Davis is still involved in the concept, according to Eater. Milk & Honey opened a location at The Wharf in May, serving Davis’ Carolina shrimp-and-cheese grits and fried chicken, eggs, and big biscuits topped with Cajun sauce.

A reopening timeline has not been announced. The Source will update as more information becomes available.
