Montgomery County Police say they have arrested and charged 22-year-old Vincent Adeniyi Oyegbami for an armed carjacking in downtown Silver Spring last month.
The charges against Oyegbami include armed carjacking, firearm use in a violent crime, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, illegal possession of a firearm, theft, and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle.
In the early morning hours of August 6, 3rd District officers responded to the 8300 block of Georgia Ave. following a report of a carjacking. The investigation revealed that Oyegbami, armed with a black handgun, stole a white 2017 Mercedes E300 from a male victim and left the scene, according to an MCPD press release.
Oyegbami was identified as the suspect during the course of the investigation. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant on August 24.
On August 31, Oyegbami was observed by detectives leaving his residence in Prince George’s County. Oyegbami fled after seeing the police and was taken into custody after a brief foot chase. The arrest warrant was executed at Oyegbami’s residence during which a loaded Glock 30 and items of evidence linking Oyegbami to the crime were seized.
Oyegbami was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is being held without bond, MCPD said.
