A construction worker at the site this morning mentioned that Taco Bell Cantina plans to open in downtown Silver Spring in late January or early February.
Construction is nearing the finish line, with electronic menu boards, soft drink fountain dispensers, and self-ordering kiosks installed recently, along with booth seating. There’s also a walk-up window near the entrance for faster service, a feature found in all Taco Bell Cantina locations since the first location opened in San Francisco in 2015. The restaurant is currently hiring, and those who are interested can apply on the company’s website.
In addition to traditional Taco Bell fare, the Cantina will offer alcoholic beverages like wine, beer, sangria, and “twisted freezes.” Urban in-line locations also exist, and while they do not serve alcohol, they offer all the other features of a Cantina, according to fan site Living Más.
This will be the fifth Taco Bell Cantina in the region, joining locations in Court House, Old Town Alexandria, Columbia Heights, and Chinatown. The restaurant has not announced an exact opening date yet because it is waiting for inspections and permits as construction is completed. The liquor board hearing for the restaurant occurred this week.
Taco Bell Cantina, located in the former home of Pollo Campero at 8662 Colesville Rd., is one of several new restaurants opening in downtown Silver Spring. Other newcomers include Roaming Rooster, Johnny Ray’s Sultry Soul Food, Mulushewa Bar & Grill, Java Nation, and Outback Steakhouse, as well as the Commas and Solaire Social food halls.
