Construction for the Maryland Purple Line project will impact Red Line Metro service from Saturday, Jan. 13 through Monday, Jan. 15.
During this time, there will be no train service between Takoma and Forest Glen stations, with Red Line trains running in two segments: between Shady Grove and Takoma, and Forest Glen and Glenmont. Free shuttles will be available between the Takoma, Silver Spring, and Forest Glen stations.
The state-managed construction of the Purple Line is not directly linked to Metro. However, the closure will allow Metro to conduct tunnel leak mitigation, replace rail ties, and complete switch maintenance, according to a press release from the Montgomery County Department of Transportation.
Additionally, Metro will close sections of the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines between Foggy Bottom-GWU and Arlington Cemetery/Clarendon to carry out planned infrastructure repairs and maintenance. The Rosslyn and Court House stations will be closed, and free shuttle buses will be available to transport passengers between all affected stations.
Metro advises customers traveling through the work zone to anticipate considerable delays and to budget at least an extra 30 minutes for their travel.
Additional information and travel alternatives can be found on Metro’s website.
