Police Release Surveillance Video of Shalla Restaurant Armed Robbery

Montgomery County Police are still investigating a commercial armed robbery that took place last December at the Shalla Ethiopian Restaurant & Bar in downtown Silver Spring.

Major Crimes detectives have released surveillance footage of the suspects and are seeking the public’s help in identifying them.

Around 12:20 a.m. on December 21, 2023, officers from the 3rd District were sent to the Shalla Ethiopian Restaurant and Bar on Sligo Ave. in response to a reported commercial armed robbery. According to an MCPD press release, detectives investigating the incident have determined that three masked men entered the restaurant, with two of them carrying firearms and one holding a red bag. The armed men demanded personal belongings from the restaurant’s patrons, who complied with their demands. The suspects then left the restaurant with the stolen items and headed toward the District.

The suspects, as described by MCPD, are 1) a heavy-set male wearing a black BMW hooded sweatshirt with black sweatpants and carrying a shotgun; 2) a male wearing all-black clothing, a black jacket, and carrying a long rifle firearm; and 3) a male wearing a black jacket, white sweatshirt, black pants, and a white facemask.
