A police pursuit that originated in Beltsville and involved a stolen MDOT roadside assistance truck ended near Burnt Mills Park in White Oak on Friday evening when officers took the driver into custody.
A truck driver in Beltsville, responding to a call for assistance, had their vehicle carjacked, according to NBC Washington (via The MoCo Show). The suspect, during a subsequent chase, collided with multiple vehicles, drove into oncoming traffic, and intentionally struck a police cruiser.
The truck was involved in around 20 collisions with civilian and police vehicles. After an hour-long chase, authorities apprehended the driver in a wooded area near Burnt Mills Park. Initially, the driver refused to exit the vehicle.
Police officers from multiple jurisdictions encircled the truck, drew their firearms, and used batons to break both the driver and passenger side windows to remove the driver and make an arrest. The driver was transported to a hospital with injuries, according to NBC Washington.
