Sunday marks one year since the tragic fire at the Arrive Silver Spring apartment building in downtown Silver Spring, which claimed the life of 25-year-old Melanie Diaz and left 19 others injured.
Although the cause of the fire was officially ruled as undetermined last spring, investigators highlighted the absence of functioning sprinklers and smoke alarms as key factors that exacerbated the incident.

In remembrance of Diaz, her father plans to attend a candlelight ceremony, and he is scheduled to be in Annapolis on Tuesday to engage with lawmakers concerning enhanced fire safety regulations for apartment buildings, according to WUSA9.
