Community Input Sought for Silver Spring Bridge Replacement Project

The county’s Department of Transportation will host a virtual public hearing on April 3 at 7 p.m. to discuss the proposed replacement of the Dennis Avenue Bridge over the Sligo Creek Tributary in Silver Spring.

The public can provide testimony and ask questions during the event.

According to MCDOT officials, the existing Dennis Avenue Bridge (bridge number M-0194) requires replacement to enhance the safety of commuters. In conjunction with the Wheaton Branch Flood Mitigation project, a sister initiative by the county’s Department of Environmental Protection, this undertaking aims to mitigate the frequent flooding of five residential properties and local streets upstream of the bridge, as well as the occasional roadway flooding on Dennis Avenue that causes significant traffic delays.

MCDOT will present project details, costs, and schedules during the public hearing, obtain public testimony, and address queries. Community input is encouraged, as it may influence the project’s final design.

Residents are encouraged to visit the project website and provide feedback via the online comment form or email the Project Manager, Greg Hwang, at [email protected]. All information provided, including questions and testimony, will become a matter of public record.
