Silver Spring Teen Fleeing Police Hits 2 Vehicles, Multiple Injuries Reported

Several individuals sustained injuries when a 19-year-old driver from Silver Spring crashed into multiple vehicles while fleeing police on Interstate 395 in Fairfax County.

Virginia State Police troopers were alerted of two cars attempting to race on the southbound lanes of I-395 shortly after midnight on Sunday.

The troopers initiated a traffic stop, but both vehicles failed to comply.

One vehicle exited the interstate at Edsall Road, while 19-year-old Kennedy W. Mejia Medina, driving a Toyota Camry, accelerated southbound on I-395 before colliding with two other cars near the Edsall Road area.

Mejia Medina and a passenger in the Camry were transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The other victims involved in the crash were also hospitalized and are recovering.

According to WTOP, Mejia Medina faces charges of eluding police, causing injury, property damage, and taillight violations.
