Montgomery County Police are investigating a burglary that occurred last week at U.S. Senate candidate Angela Alsobrooks‘ campaign field office in downtown Silver Spring.
MoCo360 reported Saturday that the Alsobrooks campaign office, located in the 8400 block of Colesville Road, was broken into sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning. A staffer arriving to work at 11:15 a.m. on Friday discovered the break-in, where his desk was found “disheveled” with “campaign items thrown in the trash, [and] personal belongings stolen.” The staffer’s “closed and sealed leather notebook containing sensitive campaign information was untied and had been opened.”
MCPD said in a statement that officers were dispatched to the 8400 block of Colesville Road at 11:53 p.m. on Friday to investigate a burglary in an apartment, where an employee reported that their personal belongings had been stolen and their office items were in disarray.
“I am disappointed to see that our office seemed to be targeted,” Alsobrooks said in a statement. “Someone forced their way in, went through sensitive material, threw some of our campaign shirts in the trash and stole personal items from a staff member. What I will say is that this will not deter us and it only strengthens our resolve to run the kind of uplifting campaign we’ve been running since day one.”
Currently, Alsobrooks and Rep. David Trone lead the Democratic primary election to replace retiring Sen. Ben Cardin, with former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan in the lead for the Republican nomination.
Alsobrooks’ office was the only one burgled, and surveillance cameras are being installed, according to WTOP.
