Police Make Arrest in Thayer Ave. Armed Carjacking, Search Continues for Additional Suspects

Montgomery County Police announced Thursday that they have arrested 23-year-old Christopher Eugene Light from Washington, D.C., charging him with an armed carjacking that occurred in downtown Silver Spring last February.

According to a press release, officers from the 3rd District responded to the area of Thayer Ave. and Mayor Lane around 4:20 a.m. on February 5 following reports of an armed carjacking. The preliminary investigation by detectives revealed that three armed suspects exited a white Audi SQ5, brandishing handguns with blue lasers and an assault rifle. They approached two victims inside a vehicle, ordering them out and stealing their personal belongings. The suspects fled the scene in the victims’ 2017 Mercedes E300, followed by the white Audi.

Both vehicles were later found unoccupied; police determined that the white Audi SQ5 had been reported stolen from New Jersey in October 2023.

During the investigation, Light was identified as one of the suspects. He was taken into custody in Washington, D.C. on March 25, and is currently awaiting extradition to Montgomery County, where he faces charges of armed carjacking, armed robbery, and other firearm-related offenses.

Detectives continue their search for two additional suspects described as Black males of unknown age, MCPD said.
