24-Year-Old Silver Spring Man Sentenced to 70 Years for Murder Caught on Camera

24-year-old Andre R. Moore of Silver Spring received a life sentence this week with all but 70 years suspended for the shooting death of his 40-year-old housemate Michael Sutton in 2021.

Last December, a jury found Moore guilty of first-degree murder and using a firearm during a violent crime for fatally shooting Sutton inside their shared home in Hillandale.

According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, the incident occurred on January 18th, 2021, at a residence in the 900 block of Balmoral Drive. A verbal altercation escalated, leading Moore to shoot Sutton in the back of the neck, resulting in his death.

The incident was captured on video by surveillance cameras inside the home.

State’s Attorney John McCarthy commented on Moore’s conviction last December, stating, “This is yet another case of senseless, deadly violence involving a ‘ghost gun‘ or privately manufactured firearm. The weapon was illegally purchased by the defendant about two weeks prior to the murder. We send our deepest condolences to the family of Michael Sutton and thank the Montgomery County Police detectives and Assistant State’s Attorneys Kimberly Cissel and James Dietrich for seeing that justice is served in this matter.”

Moore was also sentenced to five years of supervised probation to be completed after his 70-year prison term.
