Suspect Charged in Fatal Shooting of Rapper Phil Da Phuture at D.C. Dispensary

A D.C. man has been charged in the fatal shooting of 41-year-old Philip Prendergast of Silver Spring during a robbery last March at a Northwest D.C. cannabis dispensary where Prendergast worked.

21-year-old Trenton Collins was arrested and charged Monday with first-degree murder while armed.

D.C. police said in a news release that Collins and another suspect entered the HOTBOX Uptown cannabis dispensary in Northwest D.C. on March 27 and demanded money from the customers and employees. During the robbery, Collins shot Prendergast even though he had cooperated. They then took the property and cash and fled the scene, according to police.

Prendergast, who performed as a local rapper under the names Felipé Dro and Phil Da Phuture, later died at a hospital.

The other suspect, still being sought by police, was captured by nearby cameras and can be seen in the video below.
