Silver Spring Nonprofit Developer MHP Raises $15.8M to Expand Affordable Housing

MHP has launched a $20 million campaign to double the impact of its mission to expand and preserve affordable housing by 2030.

The campaign’s motto, “Making Home Possible for All,” reflects the diverse array of individuals needing affordable housing options, including seniors, single adults, and working families with children, according to the Silver Spring-based nonprofit developer, which has raised 79 percent of its goal.

MHP President Robert A. Goldman announced the campaign last week at El Golfo Restaurant in Silver Spring’s Long Branch neighborhood.

“Today, while we continue to raise more funds each year, we are still facing an uncertain time with potential government cutbacks and rapidly rising living costs,” Goldman said. “Thank you to all of those who have supported, and are considering supporting, MHP as we continue to provide gold standard programs for our residents despite these growing challenges.”

Currently celebrating its 35th anniversary, MHP has provided services to more than 16,000 residents since its inception. In 2023, MHP achieved several milestones, including the completion of Colonnade at the Creek, a 96-unit garden-style property in Takoma Park; breaking ground on The Residences at Forest Glen, a 189-unit ground-up redevelopment in Silver Spring; commencing renovations at Worthington Woods, a 395-unit apartment in D.C.; completing the financial close for North Frederick Apartments; restoration of the Flower Theatre façade; and obtaining approval for the sketch plan for the upcoming Amherst Square / Wheaton Arts partnership deal.

“In addition to a focus on expanding and preserving affordable housing, MHP remains committed to enhancing opportunities for its residents through its award-winning Community Life educational enrichment programs and targeted outreach programs that serve residents facing challenges,” MHP said.
