White Oak Apartment Fight: Ellis Rudolph Smith, Jr. Identified as Victim

Montgomery County Police have identified Ellis Rudolph Smith Jr. of Silver Spring as the man who was found dead following a fight that occurred at a White Oak apartment early Tuesday.

On Tuesday, officers from the 3rd District responded to a fight in progress at an apartment in the 11400 block of Stewart Lane at approximately 1:06 a.m. They encountered 46-year-old Wesley Cooper from Gaithersburg and found Smith inside the apartment; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police stated in a press release issued on Tuesday that Cooper is facing charges of second-degree assault and first-degree murder. However, MoCo360 reported on Wednesday that court records indicate the charges were second-degree murder and first-degree assault.

Cooper is currently being held without bond.
