A foot chase in downtown Silver Spring on Friday resulted in the arrest of a felon with a prior robbery conviction and the seizure of an illegal gun, according to Montgomery County Police 3rd District Acting Commander Jason Cokinos.
Day shift 3rd District officers responded to a report of a man with a gun in downtown Silver Spring and quickly spotted the suspect, who fled on foot and was arrested after a lengthy foot chase, Cokinos said on X (formerly Twitter).
“Well, not today, pal! Our officers are dedicated & after a lengthy foot chase the suspect (who has a prior robbery conviction) was arrested and officers found the handgun.
“Every illegal gun 🔫 seized off the street is a prevented shooting or homicide!” Cokinos said.
Cokinos became the 3rd District Acting Commander earlier this month, alongside newly-appointed police chief Marc Yamada.
