DJ Johnny Juice Headlines Free Vinyl Day in Downtown Silver Spring

Montgomery County Public Libraries will host its annual event, “Just for the Record – A Vinyl Day,” celebrating music on vinyl records with popular DJs from around the country.

The free music festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, at the Brigadier General Charles E. McGee Library in downtown Silver Spring. Attendees can participate in workshops on music production, songwriting, and album cover painting and purchase vinyl records organized by the Friends of the Library, Montgomery County (FOLMC).

The festival’s keynote event is a 2 p.m. discussion with DJ Johnny Juice, a multi-talented composer, producer, turntablist, engineer, musician, B-boy, graffiti writer, educator, lecturer, and mentor who has earned Emmy and NAACP Image Award nominations.

The activities scheduled for “Just for the Record – A Vinyl Day” include:

  • DJ Basics for Teens and Adults
  • Make Your Own Album Cover
  • Songwriting Workshop
  • Kids Dance Party
  • Music Production Basics
  • Create Your Own Graffiti Tag
  • Keynote speaker – DJ Johnny Juice
  • Guided Album Cover Painting
  • Scratch Basics
  • Blending/Mixing/Stems Basics

“Music connects people across diverse cultures and generations in a special way,” County Executive Marc Elrich said in a press release. “Events like ‘Vinyl Day’ let us explore the art of music-making, dive into DJ culture, appreciate the timeless magic of vinyl records and gain an understanding of the wonderful offerings available in our County libraries. Come join the music-related activities for all ages at the Silver Spring library on August 10.”

“Just for the Record – A Vinyl Day” is partnered with FOLMC, Classroom 2 Community, Levine Music, the Mid-Atlantic Scratch League (MASL), and Radio One. Registration is not required, and workshops and activities are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
