Two Teens Arrested for Armed Carjackings in Silver Spring

Montgomery County Police announced on Tuesday that 18-year-old Kelvin Lovell Hager and an unidentified 14-year-old male have been arrested and charged with allegedly committing two armed carjackings in Silver Spring last February.

Both carjackings occurred between 10 and 11 p.m. on February 18, according to a press release.

At around 10:05 p.m., officers from the 3rd District were dispatched to the 500 block of Thayer Ave. in East Silver Spring following a report of an armed carjacking. A short time later, around 10:30 p.m., officers began an investigation into another armed carjacking in the 8700 block of Cameron St. in downtown Silver Spring, which was believed to have been committed by the same suspects.

During the investigation, detectives identified a 14-year-old male as one of the suspects in the carjacking on Thayer Ave. He was arrested, charged, and then released into the custody of his parent or guardian. Police identified Hager as one of the suspects involved in the Thayer Ave. carjacking, and detectives obtained an arrest warrant on May 5.

Hager was already in custody in Washington, D.C., on unrelated charges when the warrant was issued.

On July 29, Hager waived his extradition rights and was transported to Montgomery County, where detectives later charged him and the 14-year-old with the Cameron St. carjackings.

Hager is currently held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
