A Silver Spring physician who sexually assaulted two of his patients during routine medical exams has been sentenced to 24 years in prison, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.
60-year-old Ishtiaq Malik of Lanham was arrested in February 2023 outside his Advanced Walk-in Urgent Care medical practice, which is now permanently closed at 10800 Lockwood Dr. in Silver Spring. Two cases investigated by Montgomery County Police involved two female victims who claimed that Malik groped, inappropriately touched, and sexually assaulted them during routine examinations he performed at his practice.
Eight more victims came forward after his arrest last year.
Malik was convicted in January of two counts of second-degree rape and two counts of fourth-degree sex offense. He entered anĀ Alford plea, acknowledging the prosecutor’s evidence in a separate case for eight counts of fourth-degree sex offense, one for each of the eight additional victims.
“The judge issued a sentence above the Maryland State Sentencing Guidelines which is entirely appropriate in this case. Ishtiaq Malik took advantage of his position as a medical professional and violated these women who trusted him with their care,” State’s Attorney John McCarthy said at Malik’s sentencing on Wednesday.
Malik will be required to register as a sex offender when he is released.
