A suspect armed with a knife was arrested after a foot pursuit in Downtown Silver Spring on Friday, according to Montgomery County Police 3rd District Acting Commander Jason Cokinos.
Police responded to reports of an armed suspect threatening people with a knife near Whole Foods Market at 833 Wayne Ave. The suspect fled on foot and was chased by officers before being apprehended nearby.
“Officers used their training and tactics to safely take this person into custody… this situation could have ended way worse,” Cokinos wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “All the hard work by officers has made some positive impacts.
“We will actually be releasing some data soon showing improvements in crime,” Cokinos continued. “We still have work to do, but It is actually headed in the right direction in some categories. Apprehending criminals like this one today is helping by taking them off the street!”
Cokinos became the 3rd District Acting Commander in July, alongside newly-appointed Police Chief Marc Yamada.
