Suspect Arrested in Downtown Silver Spring for Office Window Sledgehammer Attack

A suspect was arrested on Saturday for smashing the glass of a business with a sledgehammer inside a downtown Silver Spring office building, according to Montgomery County Police 3rd District Acting Commander Jason Cokinos.

Cokinos stated on X (formerly Twitter) that 3rd District officers apprehended the suspect with the assistance of K9 officer Beno and the Raven 1 drone.

A citizen called 911 reporting a strange subject with a sledgehammer entering an office building in the 8700 BLK of Georgia Ave in Downtown Silver Spring.

Your @mcpnews 3rd District officers, Drone RAVEN1 🚁, and K9 quickly responded. The suspect smashed the glass of a business and was inside when officers arrived on scene. The non-compliant suspect was taken into custody by K9 Beno.

The suspect was taken to Montgomery County Central Processing Unit in Rockville and booked on felony charges.

The office building at 8700 Georgia Ave. is owned by Roadside Development, the D.C.-based company responsible for the Tastee Diner redevelopment. The building is home to several tenants, including Joe’s Record Paradise, GW Primary Care, and formerly SunTrust Bank, which merged with BB&T to form Truist Bank and relocated to Station Square in 2022.
