Two CVS Pharmacy theft suspects were arrested Tuesday with the help of the Montgomery County Police Department’s Raven 1 drone, according to 3rd District Acting Commander Jason Cokinos.
The drone tracked the thieves after allegedly stealing several medication bottles and other items from the CVS on Georgia Ave. in Montgomery Hills. Responding officers in pursuit arrested the repeat offenders after they bailed out of their vehicle near downtown Silver Spring, Cokinos said.
Raven 1 previously assisted in apprehending a repeat shoplifter at the same CVS Pharmacy location last November.
“ARRESTED! Thought you could flee and get away…. NOPE!” Cokinos posted on X (formerly Twitter) Tuesday evening. “Repeat offender thieves caught by your @mcpnews 3rd District officers, Central Business District (CBD) team, along with RAVEN 1 🚁 Drone.
“Two suspects hit a CVS on Georgia Avenue and loaded up their car with merchandise. Quick responding officers and the drone located the suspects who bailed out on foot in a neighborhood near downtown.
“Can’t outrun RAVEN…. good containment and air support coordinated the arrests made by our officers who don’t give up!” Cokinos continued. “One suspect was wanted on other theft charges as well. Taken to processing and booked.”
