Free Shuttle Service Helps Navigate Purple Line Construction Disruptions

The Montgomery County Department of Transportation has launched a new shuttle service in downtown Silver Spring while the Spring St. bridge is closed due to Purple Line construction.

Ride On bus routes 1, 5, 11, 18, and 28 have experienced detours that started in June due to the demolition and replacement of the Spring St. bridge that connects 16th St. to Second Ave. in downtown Silver Spring.

The free shuttle operates between Second Ave. and the Silver Spring Transit Center and runs every 30 minutes during two shifts: midday (10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and evening (7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.). The shuttle service will be operational throughout the reconstruction of the Spring St. bridge, which is scheduled to be completed by January 2025.

More information is available on MCDOT’s website.
