33-Year-Old Charged in Downtown Silver Spring Murder

A Silver Spring man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting near the Holiday Inn Express in downtown Silver Spring on Labor Day, according to Montgomery County Police.

The shooting occurred in an alley in the 8000 block of 13th Street on September 2.

Major Crimes Division detectives identified 33-year-old Jeriel Demitri Martin as the suspect who shot and killed 34-year-old Jamar Emmanuel Jenifer of D.C. during their investigation.

Detectives then obtained an arrest warrant against Martin, charging him with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony/violent crime, according to a press release.

A search warrant was executed at Martin’s Silver Spring residence last Friday, where he was arrested without incident, and items were recovered linking him to Jenifer’s homicide, police said.

Martin is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit in Boyds.
