Montgomery County Police arrested a suspect in downtown Silver Spring after discovering a gun, drugs, and stolen license plates during a traffic stop following a suspected drug deal, according to 3rd District Commander Jason Cokinos.
Officers observed a vehicle driving around downtown Silver Spring with license plates that did not belong on the car. They then met up with another vehicle where a suspected drug deal took place, Cokinos posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday evening.
The officers then conducted a traffic stop, where THC vapes, approximately two pounds of marijuana, and a loaded handgun were found. A prohibited person illegally possessed the handgun, in this case, a convicted felon, Cokinos said.
“Proactive criminal enforcement gets these guns off of our streets,” Cokinos said, noting that contact shootings are down by 50 percent in Silver Spring.
