Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Celebrates New CCI Health Services Location in Greenbelt

Downtown Silver Spring-based healthcare nonprofit CCI Health Services has opened a new health center at 7615 Ora Glen Drive in Greenbelt.

The new 48,000-square-foot location, created in partnership with the City of Greenbelt, opened earlier this month on the city’s Medical Mile and offers primary care, dental care, and behavioral health services for patients of all ages.

The multimillion-dollar Ora Glen project was launched in 2023 with federal and state funding backed by Senator Chris Van Hollen. The new facility is CCI’s largest and includes 64 exam rooms, 16 dental operatories, five labs, a pregnancy center, a classroom, a simulation room, and a training area for over 280 people.

According to a press release, the Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) will bring the full range of CCI’s services to the community, including pediatric care, prenatal care, preventative medical screenings, dental cleanings, and x-rays, vaccinations, and sexual and reproductive health services.

The Ora Glen health center will also include an onsite pharmacy open to patients and the entire community.

“I’m immensely proud of what our team has achieved in Greenbelt, creating an innovative space that delivers excellent care respectful of lived experiences while investing in the future of community health in Prince George’s County,” said Dr. Sonya Bruton, CCI’s Chief Executive Officer and President. “Our Ora Glen health center will not just serve as a health care haven for over ten thousand neighbors; it’ll symbolize the power and potential of equitable access for years to come.”

CCI’s locations serve the needs of historically underserved and uninsured or underinsured populations, ensuring anyone can seek quality healthcare services regardless of ability to pay. CCI says that the Ora Glen location goes further by serving as a pipeline for healthcare job training through a unique partnership with Employ Prince George’s.

The new Greenbelt facility will also be the home of the Capital Area Healthcare Career Center (CAHCC), which will jumpstart many area residents’ healthcare careers in an industry filled with growth opportunities while increasing the pool of healthcare professionals.

According to CCI, the health center will also serve as Maryland’s first Family Medicine Residency Program self-sponsored by an FQHC. Nearly a third of the U.S. lacks access to primary care physicians; graduate medical education in community health centers addresses the need for more healthcare homes by training medical residents in an environment where they can learn how health and social drivers directly impact patients.

The program also increases the likelihood that residents will practice in historically underserved communities.

“For over 50 years, CCI has been a leading provider of affordable health care for Marylanders of all ages. That’s why we fought to deliver nearly $1 million in direct federal funding to expand their services and close gaps in healthcare access for Prince George’s County residents,” Sen. Chris Van Hollen said at the facility’s October 18 ribbon-cutting ceremony. “Through a new dental clinic, a family medicine residency program to train more doctors in a community health setting, and much more, CCI Ora Glen will play a pivotal role in enhancing Prince Georgians’ equitable access to care.”

Founded in 1972 as Community Clinic, Inc., CCI expanded to Silver Spring in 1982 and opened its new administrative headquarters and flagship health center in downtown Silver Spring in 2022.

Last summer, the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce honored the organization as Nonprofit of the Year for its dedicated community support and commitment to improving Silver Spring as a livable and working environment.

Montgomery County officials honored the nonprofit’s 50th anniversary last year.
