Nash & Smash: New December Opening Set for Silver Spring Location

Nash & Smash has announced a new opening timeframe for its location at the Woodmoor Shopping Center in December.

The restaurant, previously occupied by Subway and located between Bento Express and Woodmoor Cleaners at 10121 Colesville Rd. in Four Corners, was originally scheduled to open in early to mid-September. The MoCo Show reported on Monday that the Aldie, Va.-based chain had experienced unexpected issues with their buildout contractor and apologized for the delay.

“We are committed to bringing our restaurant to life and are currently planning to open before [the] end of December,” the company said.

A specific opening date has yet to be announced, but a Reddit post suggests the restaurant plans to open before December 15:

Nash & Smash describes itself as the “ultimate destination for fried chicken, Nashville-style sandwiches, smashed burgers, and more.” After several years of development, the restaurant opened its first location in Manassas last February and has since opened several other locations in the region, including Herndon, Ashburn, Laurel, and Ellicott City, and has partnered with Kallisto Steakhouse, Spice Village, and Peri-Peri Original for pop-up locations.

Peri-Peri Original has multiple locations in the area, including one at Colesville Center.

“People love our sandwiches,” owner Zayan Abbassi said to MoCo360 in August, noting that he decided to open at the Woodmoor Shopping Center because of the area’s bustling environment, public transportation options, and proximity to other eateries and Montgomery Blair High School.

In addition to chicken sandwiches and smash burgers, Nash & Smash’s menu includes fried chicken tenders and wings, mac and cheese, waffle fries, and mocktails. The restaurant’s menu items are halal, and the smash burgers are available in sizes ranging from 3 to 12 ounces to accommodate individual preferences.

In other burger news, Houston-based Fuddruckers has applied for a license to serve beer, wine, and liquor as it prepares to reopen following the announcement of its return to D.C. and Downtown Silver Spring last August.

The restaurant at 819 Ellsworth Drive in Downtown Silver Spring closed in late 2019.

Fuddruckers’ parent company, Luby’s, sold the chain’s 92 locations to franchisee Nicholas Perkins and his North Carolina-based Black Titan Holdings group, a subsidiary of Perkins’ Black Titan Investment Corporation, for $18.5 million in 2021. Luby’s had been working on the sale since late 2020 after shareholders approved the parent company’s dissolution and liquidation.

At the transaction’s close in 2021, Luby’s said the sale would also make Perkins and Black Titan Holdings the largest Fuddruckers franchise operators.

“We’re excited to be purchasing Fuddruckers and look forward to working with Fuddruckers’ many dedicated, highly capable franchisees to further build this brand,” Perkins said in 2021. “As a Fuddruckers franchisee, I have a vested interest in ensuring that all Fuddruckers franchisees have the resources, infrastructure and operational and marketing support they need to maximize their return on investment.”

A specific opening timeline has not been announced. Fuddruckers’ hearing before the county’s Board of License Commissioners is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on November 21.
