Maryland Housing Secretary Jake Day to be Recognized at Renters Alliance Event

The Montgomery County Renters Alliance will host the 2024 Building Community Celebration on Friday evening at the Lee Development Group Building in downtown Silver Spring.

The Silver Spring-based housing nonprofit was founded in 2010 and aims to advance renters’ rights and security through education, outreach, and advocacy.

The honoree at this year’s celebration is Jake Day, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, who helped establish the state’s first Office of Tenant and Landlord Affairs following the Renters’ Rights and Stabilization Act signed by Gov. Wes Moore earlier this year.

“This year—more than ever—we deserve an evening of refreshments, music, merriment, and fellowship as we honor our renter activists, community leaders, and elected officials who work to advance renters’ rights,” Renters Alliance Executive Director Matt Losak said in a press release.

The 2024 Building Community Celebration is on Friday, December 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lee Development Group Building at 8601 Georgia Ave. in downtown Silver Spring. Individual tickets range from $25 to $99, couples’ tickets are $175, and free tickets are available for special guests and low-income renters. Purchase tickets at eventbrite.com.
