The Big Greek Café is expanding to Northern Virginia by taking over local chain SouvlakiBar.
All four SouvlakiBar restaurants — Alexandria, Leesburg, Sterling, and Oakton — closed in December and will soon be converted into The Big Greek Café locations.
The Big Greek Café opened in downtown Silver Spring in 2009 and has nine locations, including Columbia, which opened last September. Known for its $7 Gyros on Wednesdays, the local chain has received several accolades, including “The Best Gyro in Maryland” and one of “The 10 Absolute Best Gyros in the U.S.“
The Burn reports that The Big Greek Café offers a more extensive menu than SouvlakiBar, including avgolemono soup, fried calamari, dolmades, salads, sandwiches, souvlaki, gyro pitas, lamb chops, and grilled salmon.
The opening timeline for the Northern Virginia locations has not yet been announced.
