Montgomery County Police arrested an armed shoplifting suspect in downtown Silver Spring last Friday, according to 3rd District Commander Jason Cokinos.
On Saturday afternoon, Cokinos posted on X (formerly Twitter) that officers spotted an individual fleeing from a business after shoplifting around 5:10 p.m. on February 7.
Following a chase, officers apprehended the adult male and retrieved the handgun. They discovered that the weapon had been reported stolen and was equipped with an illegal extended magazine.

“Theft continues to be an issue that we will actively target in 2025, alongside other public safety concerns such as removing illegal guns from our streets,” Cokinos said.
