Celtic Cup Coffee Plans Grand Opening After Industry Recognition

Celtic Cup Coffee has received recognition in the trade publication Daily Coffee News by Roast Magazine.

Roastmaster and former NASA computer scientist Doug Ilg opened the micro-batch roastery and tasting room in January on the ground floor of the Argent Spring office building in downtown Silver Spring.

Previously, he operated the company as a Maryland Cottage Food Business since 2019, roasting coffee at home and expanding his business through word of mouth and positive online reviews.

“The first time I made my home roasted coffee available to anyone outside of family and close friends was as a fundraiser for our dance club, the Greater Washington Ceili Club,” Ilg said when asked about the name. “I needed a name that fit the purpose, and ‘Celtic Cup’ came to mind. I’m a sucker for alliteration.”

As warmer weather arrives, Ilg plans to add a small outdoor seating area along the colonnade in front of the shop and host a grand opening celebration featuring live traditional Irish music, drink specials, and giveaways.

Celtic Cup Coffee at 8455 Colesville Rd. is open Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Online ordering is available at celticcupcoffee.com.
