Montgomery Parks has launched a naming contest for a new park opening in downtown Silver Spring next year.
The one-acre South Silver Spring Urban Park at 1110 East-West Highway is currently under construction and expected to open in spring 2026.
The park at the former National Tire and Battery site, located across from the upcoming Dacha Beer Garden, will provide an active urban recreational space with amenities such as a promenade, playground, fitness area, multi-sports court, dog run, and picnic area.
Montgomery Parks officials have presented three options for the park’s name:
- Bottleworks Urban Park: This name references the park’s industrial history, honoring the former Coca-Cola Bottling Works plant and the nearby Canada Dry Bottling Works plant.
- Kennett Street Urban Park: This name highlights the park’s location near Kennett Street, an important part of Silver Spring’s industrial corridor in the mid-twentieth century.
- South Silver Spring Urban Park: This name connects the park to the broader South Silver Spring community, as mentioned in the Silver Spring Downtown and Adjacent Communities Plan.
Participants can vote online via survey, by phone at (301) 495-2595 (referencing the South Silver Spring Urban Park renaming contest), or by mail to Public Affairs at 2425 Reedie Drive, 12th Floor, Wheaton, MD 20902.
The naming contest will remain open until May 7. More information about the South Silver Spring Urban Park is available online at montgomeryparks.org.
